| Cycling Back to Happiness | Bernie Friend | Not read this. The blurb was sent to the website by the author, but, sadly, not the whole book. The blurb makes it sound like a good book though, as it would. | |
| The Rider | Tim Krabbe | A cycling classic. Krabbe allows us to race with him, inside his mind, during the mythical Tour de Mont Aigoual. Very entertaining and one of those books that you just can't put down and want to keep reading. It even has a good ending. | |
| It's Not About the Bike | Lance Armstrong (alledgedly) | A view from the front of the peleton. Not a great piece of literature, but a great story. Lance was interviewd by the author who re-tells the tale but it's still written in the first person. | |
| Rough Ride | Paul Kimmage | A view from the back of the peleton. A dedicated cyclist dreaming of glory. What he found was gruelling defeats, complete and utter exhaustion and the dreaded drugs. An insight into how tough it can be to ride a bike for a living. Well written. | |
| Kings of the Mountains | Matt Rendell | Perhaps the most boring book I have ever read. I couldn't give it no stars as it would look like I forgot to rate the it. Other one star books are far better. I am sure these Columbian cyclists are great guys but I was bored rigid with the telling and re-telling (again and again) of their stories. Rendell is so in love with these men that he just can't write about them in an objective way. His nose is far too close to the lycra that sits just above the saddle. There was, however, one interesting chapter and that involved a drug dealer (Escobar) but thankfully this had nothing to do with the cycling. | |
| French Revolutions | Tim Moore | Tim follows the route of the Le Tour on his own. Funny, witty, entertaining, inspirational-makes you want to get out to France and have a go yourself-and very well written. | |
| In the Realms of Heoroes | Emily Parr |
The blurb was sent to the website by the author, but, sadly, not the whole book. The blurb makes it sound like a good book though, as it would..."26 year old Northerner shows just what one human can do with a challenge, a lot of determination and a bike. Emily was studying for her final year at university when she consulted a doctor about a hearing problem. It resulted in her being diagnosed with a brain tumour. A year on, Emily embarks on a mammoth cycle ride across Mexico from coast to coast, to raise funds for charity and to prove that she is fit and healthy...every day is a new adventure." |
