20th Oct Martin Stocks Lane V9919 HC 10.07 Lantern Rouge of 22 About 1 in 6 for a mile. I went really well for 100 yards then slogged my guts out for the other 1660. Perfect conditions-dry and sunny but, sadly, no tail wind. James Dobbin beat Dave Clarke by 1 second (and me by about 5 minutes).
Halifax Lane V9920 9.27 Big Red Light Two good hills. This one was steeper than Stocks Lane to start with but levelled off. Clarke beat Dobbin by 2 seconds to take the overall. Great prize list-everybody got one. Even the LR got a prize-a speedo which is now proudly displayed on my son's bike.
14th Oct Martin The Rake L812 HC 4.21 49 from 52 Massive crowd lining both sides of the road. 25% or 1 in 4 gradient. Another win for Jim Henderson (his 7th on this hill) at 2.29 beating James Dobbin into second by a second. 5 more to Dave Clarke in third. Bradley Wiggins failed to show, which meant I got inside the top 50!!
13th Oct Ian Jackson Bridge V9912 HC 5.40 15 from 27 Dave Clarke wins in 4:15. I was dissapointed to find out the the top few were all on their second race of the day.
6th Oct Martin Curbar OHC5 HC 8.59 21 from 26 Stuck in traffic. Arrived on start line at "30 seconds". Starter pinned on number as I reset speedo. Jim Henderson won in 5.27 so I'd still not have won even with a warm up.
30th Sep Ian Cat and Fiddle J9/7 HC 25.40 28 from 97 Just a faint touch of a headwind but I still managed to go slower than my previous time. Nobody else was going too quick though with a winning time of only 21:19 from Dan Soltys.
16th Sep Martin Long Hill J9/13 HC 21.10 23 from 24 Sunny but with a strong side wind. Dan Soltys won in 14.52. Not a steep hill, but a good steady climb.
9th Sep Ian Shapiro Snake Pass J9/5 HC 15.25 13 from 31 There were allegations of a tailwind although I never noticed it. A fantastic effort of 12:16 by James Dobbin - notable as this years national on Cheddar Gorge is not a disimilar gradient and length.
Martin Pigott 22.07 One after second to last Rear puncture before start. After fixing it, 35 psi was all I could get in. No warm up. Missed start. Brake block rubbing. Not a good ride. James Dobbin won setting a new course record.
