A relatively small entry did not detract from the competition on this memorable Clarion day's
racing. The Clarion is indebted to Chris Pyatt for managing the event on the day, Alison Cooper
8 commissare and not least Julian for stepping in once again to ensure a smooth running event.
7 Julian leaves us at the end of the month to live in Italy and we wish him well in his new life.
6 Over the years Julian has made a tremendous contribution to the Clarion not only as secretary
1 of Stockport but also his willingness to run events for the National Clarion. It is not going to
be easy to fill the gap.
We must salute junior rider Simon Horner for carrying off two club championships and finishing
in top place in the omnium of the events that is used for the points competition. The outcome
of this championship meeting is that Ian Clarke takes over from Andy Horner as leader of the
points competition. However, at the Wortley weekend we have the last two counting events -
the 10 and hill climb. We can look forward to a cliffhanger finsih.
The Newcastle track does offer a useful facility but the threat of rain meant that we were hard
pressed to complete the programme. It is apparent then that the committee will have to
explore the possibility of returning to the Velodrome which does attract more riders and there
is not the worry about the weather. The difficulty has been the securing a suitable date.
If you have any thoughts on the matter please write to our secretary Ian Clarke.
