In May 1998 Toyota
and Gardner
Merchant sponsored a Manchester - National Clarion Team of 5 riders to ride
this gruelling 9 day 850 mile International Road Race.
Three of the team and all the teams officials were from Stockport
Clarion.
These 3 SCCC Riders were (back row, 3rd to 5th from left) Julian
Mortel, Duncan Hewitt, and William Sanderson.
All finished admirably, against top European amateurs, in a race
averaging over 25 mph for the weeks mountainous efforts.
Also pictured are Wayne Randle (Mountains competition winner) and
Rob Newman, with team officials Andy Magee, Graham Pearce, and
Dave Armstrong.
